Some time in 2024, at a party in Bern, Switzerland, a plan was hatched for us to go on holiday to a house in Mallorca. The house is owned by our new party friends, Pontus and Cornelia, and we were to be joined by long standing friends from Switzerland Markus and Nicole. To top it off, we were going to turn it into a bit of a cycling jolliday which I could use as part of my preparation for the Chris Hoy Tour de 4 in September 2025.

Does that make me seem like a globally sociable healthy chap with a charitable side?

As ever I travel with a camera, though this time I was a tad ‘camera-lite’ due to the ridiculous amount of cycle-wear that I took. On this occasion it was the trusty Nikon D810 that joined me along with the old 50mm f/1.4D, a 24mm D series lens and of all things the 1970s Helios 44-2 (55mm) lens. Yep, it’s good to mix it up.

The D810 is still a fantastic camera, and the cheap nifty-fifty gives my Leica Summilux a run for its money. The 24mm is small and a good workhorse, and the bonkers old Helios good a good outing with plant-life. I’d have love to have the Leica M9 with me, it would have loved the light, but this trip was about more than photography.

There were more shots, I wouldn’t want to bore you. Travelling light is a good challenge though.
