By all accounts this was an incredibly successful auction. Long standing client, Paul Fitzsimmons recently had a huge two day auction that successfully sold a massive amount of stock (£855,000 or so).

Somehow, a 240-page bound catalogue was filled mostly by my photography! (and apologies for the ropey phone shots of the book).

Although, through the years, I’ve photographed a lot for Paul, the catalogue designer wanted to hang the story of the auction through various areas in the historic property that the items were in. This meant that added images were needed and were to be taken in the less easy rooms to light. There were several long, back to back days involved in getting this catalogue to press on time.

One of the challenges was to light the extensive cellars but make them look unlit. It would appear that this was indeed convincing and Mrs F assumed that the numerous cellar images were unlit.

Some items, such as the tall clocks, couldn’t be moved, which called for mixed lighting photography.

And finally, possibly the most challenging item, Paul “I don’t like being photographed” Fitzsimmons himself.
